No such luck.

There was some damage to the Fifth floor with some tiles which had come down and some cracks in the walls; otherwise, the building was closed for about two hours and it was business as usual. Maybe it was the rarified atmosphere with a pressure differential for the CEO.

As for the bitterness, I myself, make more money now, doing much less stressful work and working fewer hours (7.5 per day as opposed to 13). Also, thanks to them, instead of doing a 100 mile a day commute, I'm five miles from work and carpool with my wife who works four blocks away from the nicest (and new) home we've ever lived in. The blessings never cease, once we got away from them.

They aren't much for using HP3000s any more, except for, let's say, uh, Classic computers (although there are a few more recent processors). I told them and told them to upgrade before the Year 2000, but they had a different plan... which basically failed. 

Let's rejoice that they support HP with buying lots of HP-UX machines.  'Course, they've outsourced pretty much all their technical people, particularly in telephone, telecommunications, and Information Technology; it was a pretty bloody process from the perspective of those who were still left going through it [Not unlike another recent posting]. As with all such "downsizing", it appears that their best technologists left first, and some of them post to this forum from time to time. As cycles go, it would not be that surprising to see them hire technologists back a few years down the road. But for now it allows them to "focus" on their "priorities".

Also, personally, I owe those folks a huge debt of gratitude for providing one-third of the material in my forth-coming book, Ó "Assertive IncompetenceÔ--An Introduction to Management Malpractice"--mentioned often as one of the Misfortune 500â, rather thinly disguised. I especially like their "Our Shared Values", the little ethics booklet they present to their employees. They taught me a lot about process.

I've not yet found an ex-employee who didn't think of the Company ever so fondly as, say, someone's ex-spouse.

Has anyone heard if there was any damage to property owned by Weyerhaeuser
Company?  Their corporate office is in the Tacoma area.  I used to work for
Weyerhaeuser, and since yesterday was my birthday, I've been wondering if maybe
the quake was a birthday present for me.  :-)
