Well, the T1 is down which means, in era of distributed computing, that I
can't do much of anything. I had a choice of updating the "What to do when
the system is down" guideline to also include T1 failures or of responding
to Ken's solicitation about 2GB SCSI failures. So...
I first installed 2GB SCSI drives about 2 years ago, at this point I've go
25 of these drives: 6 x C2490AMs, the rest are C3010M1s. In that time I've
had two failures: once a C3010M1 and the other time a C2490AM. Fortunately
both failures occurred on members of user volume sets that did *not* hold
mission critical data. Unfortunately, however, the C3010M1 was one of those
that's housed in the SPU cabinet; were I not attending IPROF at the time I
would have taken the system apart and pull the power lead for the drive
rather than wait for the CE to show up and replace the drive.
It's a lot better than a few years ago when I had 26 7933 failures in the
space of 19 months -- of course most of those were just head replacements:
no need for a reload.
