I seriously doubt that. Postage rates in the US have the following history:
July 6, 1932 3 cents
August 1, 1958 4 cents
January 7, 1963 5 cents

I don't know about when you first started to drive, but when I worked at a
gas station back in the early 70's gas was selling to $.25 to $.30 per
gallon.
