HP to replace faulty power units
By Reuters
February 9, 2001, 5:50 a.m. PT

PALO ALTO, Calif.--Computer and printer maker
Hewlett-Packard on Friday said it was replacing a
limited number of power distributors that were
shipped to Europe, Africa and the Middle East and are found in the
company's servers and storage devices.

The power distribution units (PDUs), which have been shipped to customers
and distributors since December 1999, can cause an electric shock in rare
instances, the company said.

HP said it has not received any reports of product malfunction or injury
related to
the PDUs, which are found in HP 9000 servers, HP e3000 servers, HP
workstations, HP Netservers, HP Procurve networking products, HP storage
devices, such as DLT tape libraries, disk arrays and disk systems, the
company
said.

The PDUs are not found in its consumer computer or printer products.

The PDUs will be replaced to customers free of charge and information
regarding the recall can be found at the company's Web site.
