I've used Dave's method of accomplishing things like
this before. I've used a our mail server to do
something like this before as well.

We're using Imail from Ipswitch. It allows us to set
up an email alias to run an external program rather
than forward the mail. So the process would run
something like this:

- ftp the files to the NT from the HP
- send an email from the job on the hp to the email alias
- the mail server will run the external program to
  accomplish the desired task.
