IIRC, the CommandView SCM will show the space as it is allocated for
each LUN. When you create a LUN, the space is not initialized. It just
marked that it can go up to a specific amount. As you use the space, it
is initialized for that LUN and marked for it. Even if you delete the
files in the LUN space, that space is not returned to the "pool" so to
speak. It remains allocated for that LUN.

Subject: Re: [HP3000-L] VA7110 LUN usage

Ran a test today.... I did some "store to disk" operations to consume
my
disk space. As the STORE operations progressed, the CV SCM "Capacity"
number tracked fairly closely with the "discfree c - in use" number.
When
most of my space on the four LUNs was gone, I purged the disk store
files.
The following is what I'm observing now:

From Command View SDM From Discfree C
            LUN Capacity LDEV "In Use"
            1 73% 1 10%
            2 95% 2 9%
            3 95% 3 8%
            4 95% 4 9%
            5 0% 30 0%
            6 0% 31 0%
            7 0% 32 0%
            8 0% 33 0%
            9 0% 34 0%
            10 0% 35 0%

It looks like I only get to see the maximum usage from Command View SDM.
I
would have thought that a purge operation would have been reflected
within
Command View SDM as well.

Actually, I have 6 other 36Gb LUNs defined in the VA7110 which are
currently 0% used. (I'm still setting up the system, and haven't yet
restored those volume sets.)

I will admit I have not much idea of CommandView, but I am
speculating that what it tells you about the LUNs are the
percentages of the overall VA's capacity being used by
these LUNs.
