It was a bit of a long winded question. But basically I was looking for
feed back on what you folks thought were the required skills of a
graduate from our IT program. Below is a copy of the original question.

Subject: [HP3000-L] OT: A question? - a prize for an answer

Some of you know me, for those that don't I am Gary Nolan and I am
currently faculty at NSCC (Nova Scotia Community College) a provincially
created community college with 13 campuses across Nova Scotia. In a
former life, about 10 years ago, I did work in the 3000 world for 20
years. Now I am just a lurker on the list, I just can't seem to let go.

Every 5 years our Information Technology program has a formal review to
ensure that we are meeting the needs of the students and industry. Some
of the many questions we ask are:

What does industry want from our graduates?
What are the careers that need to be filled and what skill sets are
required?
What are the right sets of competencies that our graduates need meet?

Maybe to simply put it - What do you think a newbie should Know?

This is where you people come in. With the collected years of experience
on this list server I know there will be some extremely relevant and
insightful answers to these questions. This is your opportunity to help
future graduates of our program meet the world well equipped.

If you wish to look at our college in general follow this link
www.nscc.ca

Please Please send me your ideas an thoughts on these topics. I will
accept them sent to the list, to me at work [log in to unmask] or me at
home [log in to unmask] . I will be collating the answers and
brining them to our planning team next week.

Now to the prize ... My boss has given me a NSCC memento to send out to
a lucky respondent. I will take all the names of those who responded and
put them in a hat. I will contact the winner by email.

I wish to thank you in advance for you information. I know education is
an important topic to everyone and I appreciate your time and ideas.
