Yep, John:

I agree with you. These jobs in NYC are extremely fishy. They either
don't get filled when the applicants see the neighborhoods they have to
live and work in or these positions are high turnover (for whatever reason).

Probably the applicants are working for Donald Trump type characters and
can't take the pace until they are get the "You're Fired!" line....

Some time ago there was one in NYC -- the AIG Insurance Company -- who
were looking for a computer operator. I had written to the guy who posted
the job on this list. I was curious as to what kind of salary he was
offering. He gave me a lot of info on the job description but clammed up
when I asked him about the salary. Also, no relocation package was offered.
I found out later from a headhunter in New Jersey that the salary for this
job was in the low $40K. They've got to be kidding! How can anyone
survive living in NYC on $40K a year?! That's why these jobs are being
advertised every so often. They can't get anyone stupid enough to work for
these miserable salaries in a jungle like NYC.
