The AutoRestart product contains a feature called "Dump-to-Disk", as well as
a "Mini-dump" feature. This is where the time savings comes from, as writing
to disk is obviously much faster than writing to tape. After the dump has
completed, AutoRestart will then "restart" the system for you per your
specifications.

There is also a Subsystem Dump feature which was introduced a while ago
(MPE/iX 6.0?) that takes a smaller snapshot of memory than the full dump. I
have not configured this feature, however, it was introduced for the reasons
of time savings.

Subject: AutoRestart/iX

Does anyone have any experiences(good or bad) using AutoRestart/iX. We
did a memory dump to tape recently that took 1 hour just to create the
tape. I wanted to see if Autorestart would speed up this process to
reduce downtime.
