You seem to have lost sight of what started this discussion:

At the risk of being called pedantic, "mirroring" *is* "RAID".


IOW, the original response was directed toward those who apparently consider
mirroring as something distinct, separate, and maybe not even compatible
with, RAID. My response was an attempt to correct that misapprehension. As
far as I know, at no time has the claim been made that mirroring is the only
kind of RAID. Mirroring *is* RAID, just as an Apple][ *is* a computer;
mirroring is no more the only kind of RAID than the Apple is the only kind
of computer.

FWIW, JBOD is *not* RAID.
