Just a word of caution regarding compact fluorescent bulbs... I do use a
lot of them in my home.
Last year I was reading a letter to the editor in one of my handy-man
magazines, from a man claiming that one of his CF bulbs caught fire... 1
week later one of mine did, and I have since had 2 other do the same.
The interesting thing is, unlike a incandescent bulb burning out, as
long as the electricity is on a CF it will keep sparking and burning (I
have not let this go more then 1 minute for fear of burning down my
house).
I still heavily rely on CF bulbs, but I don't have any in lights that
are on timers any more because of the fire problem.

FYI, I was in Home Depot the other day and they have 200 watt compact
flourescents now available. Great for garages and hard-to-change-bulb
places(but $10 apiece).
