Actually, this phenomenon is prevalent in many belief systems where people
collect themselves: theists/atheists, Democrats/Republicans,
communist&socialist/libertarian, Pro-Life/Pro-Choice, disabled/able,
homosexual/heterosexual, evolution/creation, and so on.  It is a
characteristic of fanaticism.  The behavior is the same, only the topic
changes.
