Who will be making CPUs in the future? Intel (not DEC, not HP)
(Obviously, that's more than 4 or 5 years in the future)
Who's CPUs won't be made in the future? DEC and HP
Who will have their CPUs in high-end workstations, servers in
the future? Intel (not DEC, not HP)
Who's getting rid of all the competitive CPU architectures? Intel!
(Ok, I'm overlooking the PowerPC, ARM, and several others ...
I'm only looking at DEC'c Alpha, HP's PA-RISC, and Intel's IA-64)
Even if HP gets a cut from every IA-64 chip sold, they'll be competing
in a "me too" market ... with little or nothing to differentiate them
from Compaq, Dell, SGI, or other IA-64-based computer manufacturers.
Hence, Intel won :)
