I'm not interested in a UNIX vs MPE flame war - don't worry!

Thanks for your comments on database access.  Since posting I've
searched for previous discussions and read those out of interest though
the bit I'm testing is very specific.

They're just interested in how fast the socket IPC functions will work
even though it's probably only a tiny percentage of the whole
application.  I've no idea why they want this info without knowing how
fast the rest of the app will work.  Perhaps this particular area of the
app is very small. I've also no idea what the point is when presumably
they'll be running on different hardware but I guess they're only
interested in their specifc setup.

The only thing I found in my search on socket speed was in the Apache
port where it was mentioned that the POSIX interface to TCP/IP was slow
but this will not be an issue as their app uses MPE intrinsics.
