The problem with "business reasons" is that tthey are many and sometimes
one is the "straw that breaks the camels back".
We are disgusted that HP has the attitude they seem to have regarding
software on the 3000. We are to commited to go to something else, but one
day...The situation is analgous to the much disccussed Cognos upgrade costs.
You buy a 3000 with the assumption that HP is taking full responsibility
for keeping the software up-to-date. Woe betide HP if another computer
vendor achieves a technological hardware breakthrough similar to RISC.
As for the C compiler, we compile programs on the PC with standard C if
we know that we want to port it to the 3000. Then we port it. Because
our programmers are used to C++ it takes longer for them to code. After
all there is a reason for C++ - it is quite an advance from straight C.
Get with it HP!
