Is there a simple way to automatically kill the backup job if it hangs
or better, is there a way to make the backup process more secure ?

     ...

I also like to keep it simple....

My backup jobstream is scheduled to run at 3:00am, and usually take
2hrs. So, at 6:00am (giving it ample time to finish), I have another
job scheduled that does an ABORTJOB on the backup job. If the backup
was already finished, then no harm done. If not, the abortjob takes
     care of it.
