I have a 2 GB disc drive in the system volume set. Needing to add disc
space I was wondering if there was a procedure for switching this out for a
larger disc (9 GB). I know I can add the new disc just fine but would like
to switch the drives so I have the same number of spindles.

Any ideas. Boot single user and use some disc copy tool?
