No, we don't believe that example at all.  It's an error, reported in CR
JAGab42568 (SR 5003099713).  From that CR:

Replace the REPLACE statement in Example 2 on page 14-9 with the following:

   REPLACE ==(FIRST)== BY ==INPUT==.
