We just distributed software using the STD format generated by TAPECOPY and
found it flawless! Just a couple of things:

1. When transferring it to another OS file system (NT web server, for
example) - make sure the LABELS option for Reflection or "Save File Attributes"
for MS92 is used. One needs to save the file attributes of the STORE file.

2. You will want to at least PKZIP the file, which will deflate it at by at
least 50%. What we were distributing turned out to be a 14MB STORE file.
PKZIP took that down to 7.

The several users who tried this method, liked it. It was simple and fast -
which seemed to override the longer d/l time than by using MOVER or tar files.
A :FILE equation and a :RESTORE statement - which are very familiar - made
restoring the software a snap.

We'll probably continue to handle distribution in this manner. MOVER is
history and all of our customers are on at least 5.5.

Rgds,
Joe
