This really hasn't a whole lot to do with our HP3000, other than the
fact that the HP3000 is on the other end of the WAN. But I know
there are JetDirect users out there who may be able to help, so here
goes:

We had a 10Base2 LAN in our accounting office with three PC's (WIN95
peer-to-peer) and a LJIII on a JetDirect (external) box. Printing
worked well, with only occasional problems printing massive runs of
bar code labels on 2 x 2, legal size label stock. We just converted
them over to a 10BaseT network which now goes through a 3Com hub and
Cisco router over frame relay to our HP3000. We ran cables to each
PC and one also for the JetDirect box so everything is connected via
the hub. After connecting everything together, The LJIII would print
"normal" (memos, letters, etc) print jobs just fine, but when we sent
the massive bar code label job to it, it would get "confused" and print
"funny" labels. This never happened using the old network. After
messing around with various cables and reloading the print drivers,
etc., we just gave up and connected the LJIII directly to one of the
PC's, slaved it off of that, and shared it to the other PC's. This
not only cured the "confusion" problem, but everything prints much,
much faster now.

So, my question is: what good is this JetDirect box? It obviously
doesn't work for us, but is it because of an inherent problem
with the JetDirect box, or some configuration problem on our
part?
