I vaguely recall that SYSMAP only causes problems if you use one of the options/modes (VERIFY?) that causes it to reset and re-scan the SCSI bus (or whatever the equivalent is for other systems).

Also, if you're on an older version of MPE, the ISL> utility is IOMAP (I think).
