Brian Williams and his management says, rather erroneously:
> On another subject: our HP3000 is to be replaced with an HP9000. Is
> there a listserver for HP-UX systems?
> [The Powers That Be are of the opinion that the 3000 will be gone in 18
> months: 4 years minimum is my estimate.]
1. Yes, the software can be had (and I believe it's Freeware) but does not
come with HP-UX...
2. The HP3000 has a hell of a lot more than 18 months and a hell of a lot
more than 4 years. Announcements at HPWorld this year will, I'm sure, bear
this out. If the Powers That Be think that the HP3000 (which also now has
BIND/NAMED, SAMBA, SENDMAIL, SYSLOG, INETD and a raft of other things that
formerly were only in the Unix domain, they are sadly mistaken! Replacing
your 3000 because "it will be gone in 18 months" is rather shortsighted -
and someone has not been reading the BUSINESS publications and keeping up.
