Hi Connie,

I went ahead and spoke to Mike, walked him through changing the IP address for the system and the gateway and validating the netxport and DTS subsystems. I had him manually bring up the network (NETCONTROL START;NET=LOOP NETCONTROL START;NET=LAN1 and NSCONTROL START) and he
he can now ping the system...

The DTC has a 1 with a flashing dot, so it should be good to go...

Thanks,
Gary Robillard

Subject: RE: [HP3000-L] DTC connection assistance please

Hi Connie,

The " CONFIGURED BUT NOT FOUND. (VALWARN 1100)" just means that the network directory files NSDIR.NET.SYS and NSDIRK.NET.SYS do not exist. My first guess would be that they never existed, and you just never saw the warning message before.

The DTC does not physically connect to the system, it connects via the
network to the system. There is either an AUI adapter with an RJ45 network
connector on the DTC72 or a BNC connector if the system was using an old
coaxial network hub. The MDP connects to the DTC72 to allow the printers
to be connected directly to the DTC72 which then uses the network to
connect them to the system.

NMMGR can be used to list the DTC ldevs, which will tell them which of the
connectors to connect the MDP to, but my first guess is to connect it to
the first connector...

Thanks,

Subject: [HP3000-L] DTC connection assistance please

Hello List - A 2-part question: I'm attempting to help remotely, from NJ -
the system is in Ohio

CFA moved their HP3000 from NJ to Ohio, it's been set up but they want to
change the IP address to match the network there. Using NMMGR, were able to
make the change, save it and attempted to validate. Got warning messages:
Validation of netxport subsystem started
*** Validate warning ---> PATHNAME : NETXPORT.GLOBAL
NETWORK DIRECTORY CONFIGURED BUT NOT FOUND. (VALWARN 1100)
--> Validation of NETXPORT subsystem finished <--

and - they are using a DTC72, not sure how that's supposed to be attached to
the HP3000? Cables weren't marked before they dismantled everything -
there's also an 8-port MDP connected that they'll use for serial connections
to old band printers.

If anyone can assist (we only have support from 8:30-5pm) please call the
onsite Network Admin: Mike Lynn at 724-256-2034. He's not familiar with the
3000, but I'm trying to guide him thru NMMGR by phone.

Help! Thank you,
Connie
