Yep...the 250 was a little work horse!

IIRC, the 250 was introduced somewhat before the 300, but you are correct in that it was targeted at the same market.

The fun thing was that the path from 250 to 300 was tortuous at best, and so HP introduced the 260 as a follow-on to the 250.

Again, that's not quite the same. The Amigo (HP300) was new and innovative but it competed with the then-emerging HP3000 which seemed to fit the current computing paradigm in vogue at the time. (I cannot believe I used the word for 20 cents.)

The 300 was, in many respects, far ahead of its time, but it was also a solution in search of a problem. I spent a few months studying that box, trying to decide whether to develop for that or the HP3000. The 300 was really a precursor to the PC in the pre-Internet era. Pretty much single-user with everything attached.

Reminiscent of Adios Amigo (the 300)...

Ok, but it's not the same thing at all. In this case, HP expended a great deal of money and assorted resources coming very late to the party with an offering what was no better than what was already there. In my view they offered nothing new or innovative.

What amazes me is the speed at which they realized they had messed up and pulled the plug on this fiasco, rather than drag it out.

Reminds me of what Techtronix did many years ago. They wanted to come up with the best terminal and invested a pile of money, then cancelled it when someone else came out with a better one.
