Using "smbclient -L localhost" is a good test. It has a dual
benefit. First it checks/confirms that your 3000 hosts file or
DNS nameserver properly resolves "localhost" (to 127.0.0.1)
and second it tests if the SMBD server process responds to your
request (with a list of share names).
