well after some digging and some helpful clues from various unnamed sources (thanks
guys! :-) the following has come to light....

point your favorite browser to the itrc and lookup sr5003180596.  sounds familiar.  but
look at the bottom of the page -- 'There are no current plans to repair this defect.'
(no, i didn't type that, copy 'n paste :-)

sooo, if the bug is sufficiently annoying to you, i suggest you call the rc folks and
tell them you'd really like to see this fixed some day *real* soon.            - d
