Hmmmm... using carriage control to skip a certain number of lines is often
far faster than the approach of writing out blank lines in COBOL but you can
only skip a certain number of lines if you know in the code exactly how many
lines you need to skip. Perhaps the printer controller software is trying to
convert a series of blank lines into a carraige control skip? Perhaps it is
also failing to gain any speed by doing so?
