A side note for those of us which have HP 3000 systems on an
intranet with no direct access to the internet but http and/or
ftp proxy servers for surfing through the firewall...

GNU wget for MPE/iX can be instructed to use such http or ftp
proxies and retrieve files or web pages from the internet to
store them locally. Have used it several times for downloading
stuff without an intermediate PC or Unix workstation step...

 Shell/iX> export ftp_proxy=http://my.proxy.server:myport
 Shell/iX> wget ftp://some.ftp.server.com/some/dir/file.ext
