We have been using Symbol LRT3800's and the VRC truck mounts with Manman for
almost two years now. Striped Lightning from Peripheral Software is the
Manman bolt-on that provides us with the real-time RF transaction
processing. We have all of our Symbol terminals going through a HP9K
running Screen Shaper from MSI. The HP9K and Screen Shaper works as a
wonderful communications server with some added application related
benefits.

Currently with this setup I'm running about 40 RF terminals (soon to grow to
55) in 4 physical warehouses connected via a WAN. The to remote warehouses
are using Symbol 2.4ghz terminals and they actually Telnet to the HP9K at
our corporate office. At the corporate office we are using Symbol 900mhz
terminals and they connect directly to the HP9K via a serial link - Symbol
Spectrum 1 Network. From there they run Screen Shaper and eventually they
all use HP NS/VT protocol and log in to the HP3K as individual users and run
the Striped Lightning dispatcher for the real time RF Transactions.

We started with Symbol 900mhz Spectrum 1 Network using their Serial Access
Bridge to connect them to our HP3K via a DTC port. This was a disaster!!
You're right Symbol never "herd" of the HP3K and we tried Peak and received
the same sort of run around that you mentioned below. That went on for
about 4 or 5 months. Down time was about 50-65%.

I discovered MSI (who help us put it all together) at CA World-96 in August
and by the end of September we were installed and running live!

In summary, it's a great solution. If you want to discuss it further or
want more information on these vendors, please feel free to contact me.
