Peter,

I used the examples provided at http://www.editcorp.com/personal/lars_appel/
To develop a Cobol client app that talks to a vb server.  Although the
examples are painfully devoid of "why" they contained enough "What" to allow
me to develop the app within a few hours.

make your way to http://www.petevick.demon.co.uk/sockets.htm where there is
a sample in COBOL talking to a VB client. Hope this helps
