We had a similar problem, we now restore a copy of our
databases onto a lower spec. development machine overnight
and force ODBC users to use those copies except in very
exceptional circumstances,

Due to misuse of ODBC, (A user had a tendency
to download entire large datasets.) It was
deemed that the data was being queued up
on disc faster than the NIC could stand.

Users had impossible response times during
these incidents. Sometimes losing their
sessions altogether and leaving reserved VT
ports hung out to dry. An update from the
Terminal Emulation vendor solved the problem
but the possible misuse of ODBC to hammer the
10Mbit NIC still remains.

This is just one of the issues for the
justification of using a 100Mbit NIC as a
second card.

As much as I hate asking dumb questions (duh), here goes:

What are the reasons that one would want to install a 100mbit card on the
3k, other than the obvious (it's faster)?
1) Need to interface with faster hub???
2) Will data transfer faster between all devices???
3) other???

Private replies are humbly accepted to avoid wasted bandwidth....
