I'd just like to second the plug. We've been using the Append feature for
differential backups done over the weekend for a number of years and have
never had a hitch. The only thing I might wish to add is because we run
ORBiT unattended over the weekend we add the following to a job stream prior
to the the backup job.

! RUN LOADTAPE.PUB.ORBIT;PARM=[tape ldev]
