Subject: Blind student needs help with Visual Basic, etc.
Message-ID: <[log in to unmask]>

Carl,
I saw a request on an H P 3000 news list asking help for a blind student.
I requested more information and am forwarding the response to you in the
hope that you or one of your contacts can help them.
Phil

Thank you very much I appreciate it. The student is currently enrolled in
our program for Systems Administration/Networking, a two year program.
Part
of the course consists of Access data base and Visual Basic.Net. Tech
support has installed Jaws on the PC she uses, It works for web pages and
documents by reading the text to her, but when it comes to the GUI
nature
of VB and Access it does not work correctly. This person has been blind
since birth and is having great difficulty with these courses. Other
instructors and myself have been struggling with this problem since the
beginning of the year and are running out of things to try. Student
services for the college have tried to find us resources. They can get
books
that have been scanned or are already in electronic format (some
publishers
will provide them) but we still run into a brick wall when you hit
diagrams,
flow charts, etc. For example take a relationship display in Access the
translation tools choke on them, and so many concepts of VB relate to the
"Visual" aspect how do you translate this for a blind student.?

Any ideas or comments would be greatly welcome.

Gary Nolan

Hello
 Gary,
There is a Blind Programer group that might be of some help.
Some information is listed below.

As long as the topic deals with development in any way, shape, or form,
then it will
be considered on topic, so if you've got a question, don't hesitate to
ask--even
if you're not totally sure it is relative. And, if you see a question
that you can
answer, or a situation you can comment on, please do!
