I have been in touch with the Conference organisers and have been given
permission to have wine and cheese (food & drink) in the meeting. The main
stipulation is that all food & drink in the conference centre must be
provided by the conference caterers so we cannot have a BYO.

I am therefore looking for someone to sponsor this 'event' so we can have a
fun time together as HP3000 enthusiasts. Do you think HP would be

Or you could try the following variation on Tom's suggestion:

On the Local machine:
      :BUILD TEMPCMDS;REC=-80,,F,ASCII;TEMP

On the Remote machine:
      :file y=z:$back
      :setvar RemVar1 22
      :setvar RemVar2 "Abcd1234"

      :

On the Local machine
      :XEQ TEMPCMDS
      :SHOWVAR REM@
      REMVAR1 = 22
