Kevin Miller already explained :SYSDUMP pretty well. I recommend always
using a dump date of "0" (zero) and specifying what files you want stored
(even if that's just @.pub.sys or @[log in to unmask]) for a cold load tape.

I would add that :FULLBACKUP and :PARTBACKUP also work essentially as
macros which use SYSDUMP to create a CLT with the expected files appended.
In addition, they keep track of the last full backup date to be used for a
partial backup. A FULLBACKUP tape (plus the latest PARTBACKUP tape, if
any) is a complete backup of *everything* needed to reinstall the system in
a completely operational state. That is something which is not so trivial
to accomplish on MPE/iX and (so far as I can tell, and much to my dismay)
impossible on WinNT.
