While Michael Donovan mentioned type tenex, maybe we can 'disambiguate' its
use in light of Stan's question. The MS ftp clients among others call this
tenex (thanks to Larry Simonsen for recently pointing this out to me), set
by issuing "type tenex" (unlike ascii and binary, which can be issued with
out the 'type'). You will receive the response "200 Type set to L (byte size
8).". If you first issue a debug to turn debugging on, you will see the HP
ARPA FTP Server respond with "---> TYPE L 8". Previously, we had to issue a
binary to set the client side, then "quote type l 8" to set the type to
bytestream correctly on the host (thanks to John Zoltak for posting this
solution in Oct 98).

"byte" isn't a valid command for WinNT's "bundled" FTP, nor a valid
command for the command-line in Reflection FTP version 6.10,
nor does it appear to be a command in the current beta (8.0.100) version
of Reflection FTP.
