 ==========================================================================
And the solution is:

The set of intrinsics, without a leading B, were upgraded to support BASIC/V
as of release MPE/XL 2.2 but it was never documented.

In release MPE/iX 5.0 HP decided to drop the B..., BASIC/V intrinsics, but it
was never documented in the SNA/IMF Programmers Reference Manual.

Our client is testing new versions of the interface pgms on release
MPE/iX 4.0. Yes the client had to backout the 5.0 upgrade because the
interface is mission critical.

Out next step is to test the interface pgms on a loaner machine running 5.0,
probably next week.

More when I know more.
