Hi all,
I have just started using Novell's LWP.
I think from something like version 4.1 onward they
supply a WINSOCK.dll, and best of all they have a
SLIP/PPP driver included.
So you can configure both your LAN card and modem
into the NET.cfg, and access remote networks, while
staying connected to your local network.
I am told that this is possible with Trumpet (packet drivers,
packet muxes and the like?) but messy. On the whole
Trumpet seems good, but seems to cause more GPF's
than LWP, and like I say LWP will support SLIP, TCP/IP and IPX all at
the same time. It also comes with a set of tools and utilities, of
which I find LWPcon.exe as a great little diagnostic tool.
The advantage of Linux has over all this is that you can
run ROUTEd on the PC and get the rest of network
connected over the SLIP link.
I am sure someone must have written a version of ROUTEd
for Windows with LWP in mind, but I cant find it as yet.
(probably performance would be diabolical, but it would really
have its uses).
Cheers
Mal.
