Actually, the vast majority of user applications didn't require any sort
of "migration" except store/restore. Recompiling got the next level of
performance, but compatibility mode (emulation) worked -- works! --
perfectly well.
This is kind of fun for us HP 3000-plus-Macintosh users. We've been
through two nearly seamless CISC-to-RISC migrations, after all, and are
anticipating the fun and games when the need to provide a clean migration
is answered by the lackadaisical engineering standards of the PC world.
It's going to be a bad time for end-users, but it'll be great for
consultants.
