Thanks for the great info. I assume that both the 987 and 996 will be ok
this way? And when we upgrade to MPE 6.5 there's also no difference in what
you've mentioned? Just use VOLUTIL and presto-all's well?

Just be aware that only the first 4GB will be used.
On one of our systems, just to keep it simple, we ordered just
9GB drives, but the system disc (ldev 1) is configured as a 4GB
drive.

I am glad to hear you are not trying to replace lots of little
drives with a single big drive (36gb, etc.) as you might
encounter performance problems if you do. Lots of little drives
are generally faster than a few big ones.

Subject: [HP3000-L] HARDWARE UPGRADE: Discs

Hello,

I am planning to retire all of our existing 2 & 4 gig drives on our e3000's
(987 and 996), and replace with them with enough 9 gig drives to make up the
difference.

According to DSTAT, our 987 master drive is a C301M1 drive, and the master
drive on our 996 is a ST32550W drive. Both are 2 gig discs. If I were to
replace them both with 9gig mechs, is that ok? In other words, is there
something else that's needed to configure a 9gig drive as a MASTER drive, or
other kinds of configuration tips I should be aware of?

Thanks for any input,

Eben Yong
