How did the sniffer bear this out? Was it different packet sizes, or
shorter IFG (Inter Frame Gaps - They just aren't for tapes anymore :) )?
The one time we switched things around to using an AUI was when our newest
969 went LAN dead about a year ago. We couldn't get ahold of HP sine the
RC had phone problems. The only documentation I could find said if you
wanted to switch from AUI to BNC, you had to call HP which told me that
there was a jumper. Pulling out the MFIO card (or whatever it is called
on a 969), I found a big jumper around the LAN connectors which made
sense to swap. As Joe know, if you use an AUI, you need to set the SQE
(heart beat) switch on.
In our case, we were just trying to fix a problem, so the tranceiver we
used still ended up going to Coax. As I want to move all of our HP3000's
to 10BaseT so I can make better use of switching and in preparation to
100BaseT, I am curious if the increase in spead is due to the AUI part
of the change, or the 10BaseT? My guess is that it is the AUI connector
on the HP has different electronics. But that is just a guess..

faster?
I did this on the last 3000 here (yay - no more coax!) and the 918DX started
flying when it came to Samba/iX and other things - the net just flew!
I then started NetAnt (a network sniffer) and took a before and after
sample - the figures seem to bear this out...
Has anyone else seen this kind of boost by chucking the coax and bringing in
TP?
