Speaking of the Statue of Liberty Wayne Boyer quipped: Perhaps it's best
that she is not in California where the electrical cost of liberty is quite
high!
As I recall there was once talk of setting up some sort of symbolic statue
on Alcatraz Island to commemorate the signing of the UN charter. I don't
know how serious the idea was or how far the discussion ever got. I do
remember that Herb Caen, a SF Chronicle columnist and Bay Area Icon, had fun
with it for a week or two.

Yes New Yorkers the courts finally ruled that Liberty Island is in New
Jersey. I was born in NJ, which at the time was not a federal offense, so
I'm glad to see that they get a federal land designation other than Super
Fund site. Don't worry, New Yorkers, it's still easier to the get to the
statue from the New York side. The other point is that when you come back
from visiting the statue to New York City you can visit the other places of
interest, take in a show, a concert or have a gourmet meal. If you come back
to New Jersey you're just in New Jersey.

From a purely historical perspective how lucky was it that there was an
island in the mouth of the Hudson called Liberty Island. When the French
gave us the Statue of Liberty it must have seemed like fate, ya know. I mean
what were the chances, wow! ;-)

Let Peace be the maxim by which we act because we will Peace to become a
