While I have the same misgivings, it is rather intriguing.

But it brings up a question, to what extent does HP support NETIPC these days?

While I am not a Berkeley Socket or NetIPC expert, I somehow would have
a bad feeling mixing the two APIs (unless it is documented somewhere that
this can be done, is supported, and will work reliably).
