I'm sure you have already checked here:

I think Cuyahoga Falls is not too far and I remember it being a nice area.
It may seem flat compared to the front range but it is not like central
Illinois or Indiana.

You'd be closer to Cleveland to catch the Broncos, but Cincinnati and
Detroit wouldn't be too far (< four hours). As for hockey, you'd go to
Columbus to see the Aves because there won't be many tickets available in
Detroit. Pittsburgh might not be a bad drive for a hockey game either.

Akron is a bit of a pilgrimage spot for alcoholics. "Dr. Bob's" house is a
place where Bill Wilson and Dr. Bob used to hold some of the earlier
Alcoholics Anonymous meetings. The Ohio State police are very adept at
stopping speeders. I seem to recall that they hold the record for pulling
over the most cars in a single speeding violation (20+?) They used a
helicopter to tag the cars and then eight or nine units pulled the whole
bunch over. You get more snow on the South and East sides of the Great
Lakes but coming from Denver, that shouldn't be a problem for you. Can't
tell you about the COL.
