I recently downloaded the individual patch LNKKXQ9A from HP IT Resource
Center. I followed the procedures described in MPE/iX Patch Installation
Guide, FTPing the UNPACKP and LNKKXQ9A from a PC to HP3000 to the INSTALL
group of SYS.

However, when I try to UNPACKP LNKKXQ9A,AUTOPAT I get the following error
message:

[stuff deleted]

FILE "/SYS/INSTALL/UUEKXQ9A" DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE A STORE BACKUP (S/R 1306)
RESTORE IS ABORTING BECAUSE IT IS UNABLE TO READ A VALID STORE LABEL (S/R
1937)

restore *unpkstor;@[log in to unmask]@;show;group=patchxl;account=telesup;creator=mgr
RESTORE aborted because of error. (CIERR 1091)

Error restoring the fileset. STOREJCW = 6

Does anyone have any ideas??

Yes, this continues to be an annoying problem that some customers are
experiencing. I'm working with the IT Resource Center on this and hope to
have an answer soon. In the meantime here are a few things to try:

1. If you are ftp'ing from a PC to a HP3000 make sure you are using "byte"
or "tenex" mode for the transfer. Most ftp software support this (in DOS
mode it's "type tenex" on the command line, then "put ...").

2. Use the anonymous ftp access method to grab the patch (ftp
us-ffs.external.hp.com and go to mpe_ix_patches/c.XX.00). This seems to get
around the problem in the cases I've seen.

3. Send me an e-mail ([log in to unmask]). In exchange for the details of
the problem you are running into I'll arrange for getting a working copy of
the patch to you electronically. This will probably be faster than waiting
for a tape.

Sorry for the inconvenience.
