Re: status 50 on DBDELETE -
It appears the problem was due to an Omnidex index - After reinstalling
Omnidex and reindexing, everything works fine.  Why this should effect the
DELETE, I do not know - the indexed field (NAME) appears in the dataset
before any new or changed fields, so no shifting occured.  I've made
additions to Omnidex-indexed datasets many times, but never experienced
this situation.

Anyway - "all's well that ends well".  Many thanks to everyone who offered
suggestions.
