I believe that COGNOS wanted portability in order to sell the product on
other operating systems.  At one time it was running on VAX, MPE and
HPUX.  Are there shops still using COGNOS on the VAX?  I see it is still
running on the HPUX and some remaining MPE.

 

I wonder what the 2008 COGNOS UNIX and MPE research and development
budget for the 4GL was this year from the revenue they collected?

 

Maybe that's one of the reasons I am writing in MS SQL stored procedures
and functions that look like COBOL programs.
