Ray Stevens asked:
>Is the push release being sent with paper copies of the POSIX shell and
>utilities manuals does anyone know?

Well, this isn't really my area of expertise, but the people who are
responsible for the manuals sit at the end of my aisle. So, I decided to make
the long trek down to the other end and ask a few questions for you. My
interpretation of the answers are as follows:

Depending upon the type of support contract you have, all modified (or new)
manuals should be shipped to you with the new 5.0 Push release.

If you don't get the "MPE/iX Shell and Utilities Reference Manual: Volumes 1&2"
(part # 36431-60001), you can order it individually from HP Parts Direct
Ordering at 1-800-227-8164.

Also, your information was correct in that this manual is not on the CD ROM.
Both volumes of the Shell and Utilities manual are provided by the manufacturer
of the POSIX.2 shell that we ship on MPE/iX, and are in an incompatible
electronic format to be included with our other manuals on the CD ROM.
However, a solution to this problem has and will continue to be investigated.

If you want a cheap way to get information about the shell, you could try
going through the man pages online. This would be similar to using the CIs
HELP facility instead of buying the Commands Reference Manual. It isn't
necessarily fun, but it is less expensive. To get started, first update to
5.0. Then run the shell:

:run sh.hpbin.sys;info="-L"

At the shell prompt, get the man page for the man command by typing man man:

########################################################################

               MPE/iX Shell and Utilities (A.50.01)
COPYRIGHT (c) Hewlett-Packard Company 1992, All Rights Reserved.

########################################################################

shell/iX>
shell/iX> man man

This will give you detailed information about how to get further man page
information. You can also go to just about any bookstore and get a book on
UNIX shell programming and it will give you all the basics that you need to
know.

Hope this helps!
