I am sitting here, at my computer, at 12:03 AM just trying to get some
work done. Unfortunatly, my e-mail program keeps alerting me that I have
new mail every few minutes. Everytime I check I see that it 3-5 new messages
from users on 3000-L panicing about the PP5 production hold and data
corruption bug. Since I can't get anything done anyway, and since I can
clearly see that a bunch of you are all upset, and since the posting
above is particularly inflamatory and way off the mark, I decide to
say a couple of things.

1) I would be happy to divuldge all sorts of details about the bug and the
production hold if I knew them. I don't know the details so I am not
going to the panic by accidentally mistating some fact.

2) I do know a little. I know it is a software bug. I know that it
is "well understood", "very recently discovered", "very high priority
within the MPE/iX lab", and "currently being worked on".

3) With respect to the remarks may be Larry Simonsen (quoted above)...
Your remarks are ridiculous! There is no cover-up. I work in the MPE/iX
lab and TODAY was the first time I have heard anything at all about this
bug.
Your rehtoric seems to be a deliberate attempt to spread fear and cause
panic.
The problem is nothing like the Intel Pentium bug and it is not being
hushed up from within HP.

Someone from the MPE lab will post a message to this board clarifying
the problem. If this is not done by 12:00 PST time tomorrow I will
personally
call back Cupertino, get enough detailed information to write quality
posting,
and post it myself.

Calm down people!

Some of you have raise the issue of "choice" and indicated that you would
like
to be able to move forward, making an informed choice, vetoing the offending
patch
if necessary etc. I agree with these comments. HP will try to get all the
necessary
information out as soon as possible (need to be accurate, etc).
