[snip] Lots of good ideas from John Beckett...

John's suggestion is right on: substitute a 2392 for the printer and check
out the cable and 3000. THEN, perform the following check. Replace the
HP-3000 with the 2392! Connect the 2392 to the Intermec with the same cable
plus a 2-3 cross-over. (Remember 3000 is a DCE, 2392 is a DTE.) Load up
function keys with the data that caues the labels to print. Set Xmit Pacing
to NONE, set parity to 7/0's, enable parity checking, turn on Display
Functions, blast away! If the printer is using XON/XOFF you will see
DC3(XOFF) and DC1(XON) on the screen. If you see square blocks, the printer
is not using the expected parity. If the DC3's come out as blocks, the
printer is running 7/1's or 7/Even. If the DC1's come out as blocks, the
printer is running 7/1's or 7/Odd. Change the terminal until both characters
come out normally, then, either change the printer to the proper setting or
change the 3000 to match. (Of course, if nothing shows up on the screen,
the printer isn't doing XON/XOFF, or the cable is busted, but you checked
that in the previous step.)
